The Nepalese Society of Wellington was honoured to celebrate the 71st Everest Day at the New Zealand Parliament. It was a heartwarming event that brought together an incredible group of people, including the Rt. Hon. Prime Minister Christopher Luxon, Rt. Hon. Deputy Prime Minister Winston Peters, Ministers, Members of Parliament, His Excellency Kailash Raj Pokharel (Ambassador of Nepal to Australia & the Pacific), the Consulate of Nepal New Zealand, Mark Inglis, Geshe Jampa Tharchin (Lama Ji), Himalayan Trust, and delegates from various organizations.
We were thrilled to see community leaders from diverse ethnic backgrounds, international communities, and our own Nepalese community come together for this special occasion. The presence of the Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Minister, and His Excellency the Ambassador of Nepal marked a historic participation that significantly elevated the success of the event.
Our deepest appreciation goes to the Embassy of Nepal, the Minister for Ethnic Communities New Zealand, the Consulates of Nepal to New Zealand, NRNA, Parliamentary Services New Zealand, PBRS College, volunteers, advisors, and the Executive Committee for their invaluable support. We are especially grateful to Mr. Dinesh Khadka, Honorary Consulate, for his unwavering dedication and support. Additionally, we would like to thank Hon. Simeon Brown for hosting Everest Day 2024 at the New Zealand Parliament.
The event was a huge success. Over 300 guests joined us, including delegates and community leaders and members from Nepalese, international, and ethnic communities. It was a beautiful celebration of unity, culture, and the enduring spirit of Everest.
